The Sun stays in one zodiac sign for roughly a month, which is why Sun sign date ranges are fixed and easy to look up. The Moon moves far faster — completing a full circuit of the zodiac in about 27.3 days, meaning it changes sign roughly every two and a quarter days. That speed is exactly why an accurate Moon sign normally requires precise ephemeris data (an astronomical table of planetary positions) rather than a birthdate alone.
What This Calculator Actually Computes
Days Since Epoch = Birthdate − January 1, 2000
Sign Offset = floor(Days Since Epoch ÷ (27.3 ÷ 12)) mod 12
Estimated Moon Sign = SIGN_ORDER[(index of Sun Sign + Sign Offset) mod 12]
This walks the zodiac forward from the Sun sign using a generic 27.3-day lunar cycle divided evenly into twelve roughly 2.3-day segments, anchored to an arbitrary reference date. It has no real ephemeris or astronomical basis — the Moon's actual position depends on lunar orbital mechanics that this simplified offset does not model. Treat the output strictly as an illustrative estimate, not an accurate Moon sign placement.
Why the Simplification Exists
