A burner does not stand alone. From Flame to Sky

Flue gas born at the burner travels a long path before it reaches the atmosphere. It surrenders heat in the boiler and heat-recovery units, is pulled along by fans, is cleaned by pollution-control equipment, and finally rises out of the stack. Every stage of this journey must be built to handle the volume of gas flowing through it, hour after hour.

The Equipment Train

Each component in the chain serves a purpose. Heat exchangers extract useful energy; induced-draft fans move the gas; scrubbers and filters remove pollutants; the stack disperses what remains. A shortfall anywhere — an undersized fan, a too-narrow duct — throttles the whole system, so all the parts must be matched to the same flue gas flow.
