Why 24-hour time avoids AM/PM confusion entirely

24-hour time counts straight through from 0 to 23 without repeating, which is exactly why it is the standard in aviation, the military, computing systems, and most countries outside North America - there is no ambiguity about which half of the day a given hour refers to.

Worked example

For 15:30 in 24-hour format:

Result = 3:30 PM

24-Hour12-Hour
00:0012:00 AM
12:0012:00 PM
13:001:00 PM
23:5911:59 PM

The trickiest conversion points are midnight and noon, since both map to "12" in 12-hour format but require the AM/PM label to distinguish them - this is a common source of scheduling errors when converting by hand.
