Antipode Calculator
What's directly on the opposite side of the Earth from where you're standing? The antipode is the point you'd theoretically reach by tunneling straight through the planet's center.
Antipode Latitude = -Latitude
Antipode Longitude = Longitude + 180┬░ (wrapped to stay within -180 to 180)
Example
New York City (40.7128, -74.0060):
Antipode ≈ (-40.7128, 105.994) - located in the southern Indian Ocean
Debunking "Digging to China"
A commonly cited fact that surprises many people: most of the contiguous United States doesn't actually antipode to China at all - it antipodes to the southern Indian Ocean. This is because antipodal points always fall in opposite hemispheres both north-south and, roughly, east-west - since both the US and China sit largely in the Northern Hemisphere, they can't be antipodal to each other by definition, regardless of how the popular "digging to China" myth suggests otherwise.
A Fun Geographic Fact
Because roughly 71% of Earth's surface is ocean, the antipode of most land locations - especially those in the Northern Hemisphere, where most of Earth's land mass is concentrated - ends up somewhere in open ocean rather than on another landmass, which is exactly the pattern this calculator illustrates.
