The Outside View and Reference-Class Forecasting

The proven antidote is to deliberately take the "outside view": instead of asking "how long should these tasks take," ask "how long did projects like this one actually take?" This is reference-class forecasting, comparing your project to a class of similar completed projects and anchoring on their real outcomes, not your plan's imagined ones.
