Unlike a basic period tracker that assumes a fixed 14-day gap to the next cycle, this calculator lets you set your own luteal phase length — the relatively stable stretch of days between ovulation and the next period — and works forward from your last period date instead. For people whose luteal phase doesn't match the textbook 14 days, that difference changes the fertile window meaningfully.
The Formula
Fertile Window = Ovulation Day − 5 days to Ovulation Day + 1 day
Next Period = Last Period Date + Cycle Length
Subtracting the luteal phase from the total cycle length isolates the follicular phase — the variable first half of the cycle, from the start of the period to ovulation — which is the piece that actually determines when ovulation falls.
