Event Fundraising Net Profit Calculator
Looking past the impressive gross revenue number
A fundraising gala or event can generate an impressive gross revenue figure while still delivering a disappointingly small net profit once venue, catering, entertainment, and other production costs are subtracted out.
Worked example
For an event raising $50,000 in gross revenue against $18,000 in total expenses:
Net Profit = 50000 - 18000 = 32,000
Profit Margin = 32000 / 50000 x 100 = 64.0%
Comparing net profit and profit margin across different event types over multiple years is the clearest way to decide which fundraising events genuinely deserve to be repeated annually - a well-attended, high-revenue event with thin margins may raise less real money for the mission than a smaller, leaner event with better cost control.
