Getting recipe measurements right
US recipes mix cups, tablespoons, and teaspoons freely, while international recipes and precise baking often specify milliliters - converting accurately matters most for baking, where ratios of ingredients affect chemical reactions and texture.
Worked example
For 1 US cup:
Result = 236.59 mL = 1.0 cups = 16.0 tbsp = 48.0 tsp
Watch out for international variation - the Australian tablespoon is 20 mL (versus 14.79 mL in the US), and metric cup definitions vary by country too. This calculator uses standard US customary measurements throughout; for precise baking with an international recipe, check which measurement system the recipe author intended.
