Fertilizer Nutrient Application Calculator

Product weight and nutrient weight are not the same number

A fertilizer bag's N-P-K analysis (like 10-10-10) states the percentage of each nutrient by weight - the rest of the bag is filler and carrier material, which is why the raw product application rate alone doesn't tell you the actual nutrient delivered.

Worked example

For a fertilizer blend applied at 200 lb/acre containing 10% of a given nutrient:

Actual Nutrient = 200 x (10/100) = 20.0 lb actual nutrient per acre

This is the figure that actually matters for meeting a crop's specific nutrient requirement - comparing recommended nutrient rates (from a soil test) against this actual delivered nutrient amount, rather than the raw product rate, is essential for accurate fertility planning.
