How narrow or wide an EQ adjustment really is
Q factor describes an EQ filter's width relative to its center frequency - the same numeric boost or cut in dB can sound completely different depending on whether it's applied with a wide, gentle Q or a narrow, surgical one.
Worked example
For a filter centered at 1000 Hz with a 200 Hz bandwidth:
Q = 1000 / 200 = Q = 5.0 (Moderate width filter)

Low Q filters are typically used for broad tonal shaping (like gently warming up an overall mix), while high Q filters are used for surgical, targeted fixes (like notching out one specific resonant frequency or feedback point) with minimal effect on surrounding frequencies.
