DMFT Index Calculator
The DMFT index is the World Health Organization's standard epidemiological measure of lifetime dental caries (cavity) experience in permanent teeth, widely used in dental research and population health surveys.
DMFT = Decayed Teeth + Missing Teeth + Filled Teeth
Example
2 decayed, 1 missing, 5 filled teeth:
DMFT = 2 + 1 + 5 = 8 (moderate caries experience)
Interpreting the Score
| DMFT Score | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| 0 | No history of decay recorded |
| 1-4 | Low caries experience |
| 5-8 | Moderate caries experience |
| 9+ | High caries experience |
DMFT scores each affected tooth once, counting decayed, missing (due to decay), and filled permanent teeth - it does not count teeth missing for other reasons like orthodontic extraction or trauma.
