Amazon FBA Fee Calculator
Amazon Takes Its Cut Before You See a Dollar
Selling on Amazon means paying for the platform's reach, and that cost shows up in layers: a referral fee taken as a percentage of the item price, a fulfillment fee if Amazon ships and stores the product (FBA), and often a monthly storage fee on top. Sellers who price based on the item price alone, without netting out these layers first, routinely discover their real margin is far thinner than expected.
The Formula
Total Fees = Referral Fee + Fulfillment Fee + Storage Fee
Net Proceeds = Price − Total Fees
This is a simplified model: the referral rate is category-dependent on Amazon, commonly falling in the 8%–17% range with roughly 15% typical for many categories, but it varies by product type and is entered manually here rather than assumed fixed. The fulfillment fee depends on the FBA size tier (weight and dimensions) and should be looked up for the specific product.
Where This Matters
- Pricing new listings — before listing a product, sellers need to know the true net proceeds at a given price to confirm it clears their target margin.
- Comparing FBA vs. self-fulfillment — running the same product through this calculator with and without fulfillment fees quantifies exactly what Amazon's logistics service costs versus shipping it yourself.
- Slow-moving inventory decisions — monthly storage fees compound for items that sit in an Amazon warehouse without selling, which this calculator surfaces directly in net proceeds.
Worked Example
| Line item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Item price | $35.00 |
| Referral fee (15%) | $5.25 |
| Fulfillment fee | $6.50 |
| Monthly storage fee | $0.75 |
| Total fees | $12.50 |
| Net proceeds | $22.50 |
Fulfillment and storage fees in this example are illustrative placeholder figures — the calculator's own formula computes the math exactly, but actual FBA fees depend on Amazon's published size-tier tables, which change periodically and should be confirmed in Seller Central for a specific product.
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the Item Price.
- Enter the Referral Fee Rate as a percentage (defaults to 15%, but is category-dependent — check Amazon's current rate for the specific category).
- Enter the FBA Fulfillment Fee based on the product's size tier.
- Optionally enter a Monthly Storage Fee.
- Select Calculate to see net proceeds after all fees.
