Paver Patio Calculator

Paver Patio Calculator

Planning a paver patio installation? This calculator converts your patio's dimensions and chosen paver size directly into a total paver count, including a standard cutting waste allowance.

Formula

Patio Area = Length x Width
Paver Area (sq ft) = (Paver Length x Paver Width) / 144
Pavers Needed = ceil((Patio Area x 1.1 waste factor) / Paver Area)

Example

A 12 ft x 10 ft patio using 12" x 12" pavers:

Patio Area = 120 sq ft, Paver Area = 1.0 sq ft → 132 pavers

Why 10% Waste as a Baseline

This covers cuts along patio edges and around curves or obstacles (like a tree or utility access point), plus occasional cracked pavers discovered during handling and installation.

Pattern Choice Affects Waste

A simple running-bond pattern laid across a plain rectangular patio typically needs only this baseline waste allowance - more intricate patterns like herringbone or basket-weave, especially with a border requiring many edge cuts, typically consume noticeably more material and deserve a higher waste factor in your ordering estimate.
