Why Per-Mile Rates Drop for Longer Distances
Vehicle shipping is commonly priced per mile, with per-mile rates typically decreasing somewhat for longer distances - fixed costs like pickup and dropoff logistics get spread over more total miles, improving the per-mile economics for longer hauls.

Open-air transport (what most people picture when thinking of a car-hauling truck) is the standard, lower-cost option and is perfectly safe for most everyday vehicles. Enclosed transport - which fully protects the vehicle from road debris and weather during transit - typically costs meaningfully more, and is commonly reserved for classic cars, luxury vehicles, or other high-value vehicles where extra protection is worth the added expense.
