Moving Insurance Valuation Calculator
Moving Insurance Valuation Calculator
Basic released-value coverage that movers include free by default only reimburses a small fixed amount per pound - this calculator estimates the cost of upgrading to full-value protection.
Estimated Cost = (Declared Value / 1000) x Coverage Rate Per $1,000
Example
$30,000 in estimated household goods value, $1.00 coverage rate per $1,000:
Estimated Cost = (30,000/1000) x 1.00 = $30.00
Basic Coverage vs. Full-Value Protection
Basic released-value coverage often reimburses only around $0.60 per pound regardless of an item's actual value - meaning a badly damaged 10-pound item worth $500 might only be reimbursed $6 under this default coverage. Full-value protection instead covers actual replacement or repair cost, at an additional premium cost calculated here.
Why Accurate Declared Value Matters
Declaring an accurate total household value is important when purchasing full-value protection - underdeclaring the total value can reduce your payout for a claim even under full-value protection coverage, since claims are often prorated based on the ratio of declared value to actual value.
