How many hours should you budget for professional movers? This calculator estimates labor time for a standard 2-person crew based on home size and furniture complexity.
Base Hours = Number of Rooms x 1.5 hours/room (x 1.3 if heavy furniture involved)
Example
A 4-room home with heavy furniture (piano, large appliances):
Base = 6.0 hours → Adjusted Estimate = 7.8 hours
What This Doesn't Include
This estimates loading and unloading labor time only - it doesn't include drive time between your old and new locations, which movers typically bill separately based on distance and local traffic conditions.
Why Heavy Furniture Adds Disproportionate Time
Heavy or awkward items like pianos, large appliances, or oversized furniture pieces add meaningfully more time per item than typical boxes and furniture, due to the extra care, specialized equipment (furniture dollies, moving straps, sometimes partial disassembly), and additional manpower typically required to move them safely without damage or injury to the crew.
