Formula
Total Person-Hours Needed = (Home Size / 1000) x 6
People Needed = ceil(Total Person-Hours / Available Hours)
Example
A 2,000 sq ft home, 8 hours available:
Total Person-Hours = 12 → 2 people recommended
The Reference Rate
This uses a reference figure of roughly 6 person-hours of packing and loading work per 1,000 square feet of home - your actual required time will vary based on how much is already packed, how much furniture needs disassembly, and access difficulty (stairs, distance from truck to door).
Why Two People Is Always the Minimum
A minimum of 2 people is recommended regardless of what the math suggests, since safely maneuvering furniture through doorways, up and down stairs, and into moving trucks essentially always requires at least two people working together to avoid injury or damage to both the furniture and the movers themselves.
