Trivia Question Difficulty Score Calculator
Building a trivia deck and want real difficulty ratings? This calculator scores questions using actual answer data.
Difficulty Score = ((100 - Correct Rate %) x 0.7) + (min(Avg Answer Time, 60 sec) x 0.5)
Example
Only 20% answered correctly, averaging 25 seconds to answer:
Correct Rate = 20.0% → 68/100 - Very Hard
Why Blend Correct Rate With Answer Time
This blends how often a question is answered correctly with how long it takes people to answer it - a question that's rarely answered correctly and also takes people a long time to answer scores as genuinely harder than one that's rarely correct but answered quickly.
What a Low-Score-Despite-Wrong-Answers Pattern Might Mean
A question answered incorrectly often but answered very quickly may instead suggest ambiguous or poorly worded phrasing rather than true difficulty - people confidently (and quickly) giving the wrong answer is a different problem than people struggling and taking a long time to reason through a genuinely hard question.
