Wedding Favor Calculator
One Favor per Guest, or One per Couple?
Wedding favor budgets hinge on a decision couples don't always think through explicitly: whether every individual guest gets their own favor, or whether couples and households share one. That choice alone can roughly halve the total favor cost, which matters when favors are competing with dozens of other line items for the same budget.
The Formula
Total Favor Cost = Unit Count × Cost per Favor
Per-Household Unit Count = ceil(Guest Count ÷ 2)
Per-Household Unit Count = ceil(Guest Count ÷ 2)
Worked Example

The per-household mode rounds up (ceiling division), since an odd guest count still needs a whole favor for the unpaired final guest.
Where This Matters
- Choosing a favor style within budget — a $15 favor might be out of reach per-guest but perfectly reasonable per-household, doubling the range of favor options that fit the budget.
- Ordering the right quantity — confirming unit count before placing a bulk order with a favor vendor avoids ordering too many (wasted spend) or too few (a rushed reorder).
- Comparing favors against other small-budget categories — seeing the total favor line item next to gift and stationery costs helps decide where limited discretionary budget is best spent.
