Fixed Rules, One Fixed Number
Powerball's format is fixed: five white balls drawn from a pool of 69, plus one red Powerball drawn from a separate pool of 26. Because the pool sizes and pick counts never change between drawings, the jackpot odds are a single fixed constant — not something that shifts with jackpot size, ticket sales, or how many people are playing. This calculator applies the combinations formula to that fixed format, and shows how buying multiple tickets scales your odds linearly.
The Formula
Odds (with T tickets) = Total Combinations ÷ T
C(69, 5) counts the ways to choose 5 white balls from 69 without regard to order, which comes to 11,238,513. Multiplying by the 26 possible Powerball numbers gives the full combination count for the jackpot: 292,201,338.
