The Formula

Total Fall = Slope (in/ft) × Run Length (ft)

The slope itself comes from a standard code table by diameter: ≤2.5 in uses 1/4 in per ft, 3–6 in uses 1/8 in per ft, and larger than 6 in uses 1/16 in per ft. Smaller pipes need steeper slope because they carry less water volume and rely more heavily on velocity to keep solids moving.
