Focus Score Calculator
Time Spent Working Isn't the Same as Time Spent Focused
Eight hours logged at a desk can include phone checks, chat interruptions, and mental drift that never shows up on a timesheet. Focus score separates the two by comparing minutes of genuinely focused work against the total time span, including whatever distractions occurred within it — turning a vague feeling of "that was a scattered day" into a specific, trackable percentage.
The Formula
Total Time includes distractions and interruptions within the tracked period, so the score reflects the proportion of the full session that was actually productive, not just how long the session ran.
Where Tracking Focus Score Helps
- Identifying your best working hours — logging focus score across different times of day reveals patterns, such as consistently higher scores in the morning versus after lunch.
- Evaluating environment changes — comparing focus score before and after silencing notifications or changing workspaces quantifies whether the change actually helped.
- Study sessions — students can use the same formula to see how much of a "study session" was actually spent studying versus checking a phone.
| Focused minutes | Total minutes | Focus score |
|---|---|---|
| 45 | 60 | 75% |
| 90 | 120 | 75% |
| 300 | 480 | 62.5% |
| 180 | 480 | 37.5% |
Computed directly from the formula above.
