Why Capacity Factor Is Never Close to 100%
Unlike a power plant that could theoretically run at full rated capacity continuously given enough fuel, a wind turbine's output is fundamentally limited by variable, intermittent wind speeds at its site - utility-scale wind turbines commonly achieve capacity factors around 35-45% at good sites.
