Total Ends = Fabric Width(in) x Ends Per Inch
Total Warp Yarn = Total Ends x Fabric Length(yards) x (1 + Waste Allowance %)
Example
60-inch wide fabric, 40 ends per inch, 100 yards long, 10% waste allowance:
Total Ends = 2,400 → 264,000 yards of warp yarn needed
Why Both Width and Length Matter
Each individual warp end runs the full length of the fabric being woven - this is why total warp yarn requirement scales with both fabric width (which determines total number of ends) and fabric length (which determines yarn length needed per end).
Why the Waste Allowance Is Essential
The waste allowance accounts for loom setup and warping process loss, tie-in waste at the beginning of the weave, and unavoidable weaving waste throughout production - skipping this allowance is a common reason weavers run short of warp yarn partway through a project.
