Why Raw Turns-Per-Inch Alone Is Misleading

Twist multiplier normalizes turns-per-inch against yarn fineness, since a fine yarn and a coarse yarn with the identical raw turns-per-inch can feel very differently twisted in practice - TM corrects for this, allowing fair "twist liveliness" comparison across yarns of different counts.

Reading the Twist Multiplier Ranges

Lower TM values generally indicate a softer yarn suited to knitting, medium values suit standard weaving applications, and higher TM values produce a firmer, crepe-like hand-feel - yarn spinners target a specific TM range based on the intended end use of the finished yarn.
