Flight Carbon Footprint Calculator

Flight Carbon Footprint Calculator

Curious about your flight's environmental impact? This calculator estimates CO2 emissions, accounting for cabin class differences.

Total CO2 (kg) = Distance(miles) x 0.15 kg/mile x Cabin Class Multiplier x Passengers

Example

A 3,000-mile economy class flight, 1 passenger:

~450 kg CO2 total

Why Cabin Class Changes the Footprint So Much

Premium cabin seats take up significantly more physical space per passenger than economy seats - meaning fewer total passengers share the same flight's total emissions across that larger footprint, which is why business and first class seats are commonly estimated at several times the per-passenger carbon footprint of economy class on the identical flight.

This Is a Simplified Estimate

This uses a simplified per-mile emissions factor - actual per-flight emissions vary based on aircraft type, load factor, flight distance efficiency curves (short flights are less fuel-efficient per mile than long flights), and other operational factors not captured in this basic estimate.
