Scaling a Known Air-Fuel Ratio to Actual Fuel Quantity
Once a fuel's stoichiometric air-fuel ratio is known (from a reference table or the ultimate analysis formula), finding the theoretical air needed for any quantity of that fuel is a straightforward multiplication.
The Formula
Theoretical Air = Fuel Mass × Stoichiometric AFR
Worked Example
Burning 50 kg of a fuel with a stoichiometric AFR of 14.7:1 (typical for gasoline-range fuels):
Theoretical Air = 50 × 14.7 = 735 kg air
