Effective Hourly Rate Calculator
What your salary really works out to per hour
A salaried position's advertised pay assumes a standard 40-hour week, but if actual hours worked run consistently higher, the true effective hourly value of that compensation is lower than it first appears.
Worked example
For $80,000 total compensation with 50 actual hours worked per week across 52 weeks:
Effective Rate = 80000 / (50 x 52) = 30.77 per hour
Compare this to the "advertised" rate based on a standard 40-hour week ($80,000 / (40 x 52) = $38.46/hour) - the gap between these two figures quantifies exactly how much unpaid overtime is effectively reducing your real hourly earnings.
