Pace Calculator
One Equation, Solved Three Different Ways
Distance, time, and pace are locked together by a single relationship — know any two and the third falls out automatically. What changes is which piece you're missing: sometimes it's the pace needed to hit a goal time, sometimes it's the finish time a known pace would produce, and sometimes it's the distance covered during an untracked effort. This calculator solves for whichever one you need.
The Formula
The same relationship, rearranged for each unknown:
Find Time: Total Time = Pace × Distance
Find Distance: Distance = Total Time ÷ Pace
Time is built from hours, minutes, and seconds internally, and pace is entered or returned in minutes and seconds per kilometer or mile, matching the distance unit selected.
Where This Calculation Matters
- Race goal setting — enter a target finish time and race distance to get the exact even pace needed, before the race even starts.
- Checking feasibility — enter a pace you've trained at and a race distance to see what finish time it would realistically produce.
- Treadmill and track sessions — converting between distance, time, and pace helps translate a treadmill speed setting into a real-world pace equivalent.
- Reverse-engineering an unmeasured effort — if total time and pace held are both known but distance wasn't tracked precisely, Find Distance backs it out.
How to Use This Calculator
- Choose what you're solving for: Find Pace, Find Time, or Find Distance.
- Select the distance unit — km or mi.
- For Find Pace: enter Distance and the Hours, Minutes, and Seconds it took.
- For Find Time: enter Distance and the target Pace in minutes and seconds per unit.
- For Find Distance: enter Hours, Minutes, and Seconds along with the Pace held.
- Select Calculate to see the result with the full formula used.
