Converting a step count into an energy estimate

Step counters and fitness trackers report raw step counts, but the energy cost of walking actually depends on distance covered and body weight - this calculator bridges that gap using stride length to first find distance, then estimate calories from it.

Worked example

For 10,000 steps at a 0.75m stride length, 70kg body weight:

Distance = (10000 x 0.75) / 1000 = 7.5 km

Calories = 7.5 x 70 x 0.9 = 472.5 kcal (7.5 km walked)
