Critical Hit Expected Damage Calculator
Comparing builds fairly with expected damage
Base damage alone doesn't tell the full story when critical hits are involved - a weapon with lower base damage but higher crit chance or crit multiplier can actually out-damage a higher base damage weapon on average, which is exactly what expected damage reveals.
Worked example
For 100 base damage, 25% crit chance, and a 2x crit multiplier:
Expected Damage = 100 x (1 + 0.25 x (2 - 1)) = 125.0 expected damage per hit
Frequently asked questions
How is this useful for build comparison? Calculate expected damage for two different gear or character builds side by side - the build with the higher expected damage figure will out-perform the other on average over many hits, even if one build's raw base damage number looks lower at first glance.
Does this predict damage on any single hit? No - any individual hit either lands as a normal hit or a critical hit, never something in between. Expected damage is the long-run average across many hits, useful for build planning rather than predicting any one specific attack's outcome.
