Drip Irrigation Flow Calculator
Sizing a drip irrigation system correctly means knowing both how much water your emitters will actually deliver, and whether your water source can supply that combined flow rate.
Formula
Total System Flow (GPH) = Emitters x Flow Rate Per Emitter
Water Delivered = Total System Flow x (Run Time Minutes / 60)
Example
20 emitters at 0.5 GPH each, running for 30 minutes:
Total Flow = 10 GPH → Water Delivered = 5.0 gallons
Why Total System Flow Matters
Beyond just calculating how much water your plants receive, knowing total system flow is essential for confirming your water source can actually supply it - a typical garden hose spigot has a limited maximum flow capacity, and a drip system with too many high-flow emitters can exceed that supply, resulting in reduced water pressure across the whole system, especially noticeable toward the far end of long drip lines.
