Cost Per Outcome Calculator
Serving many people isn't the same as achieving many successful results - cost per outcome measures program efficiency against actual achieved outcomes, not just headcount served.
Cost Per Outcome = Total Program Cost / Number of Successful Outcomes
Example
A $100,000 program achieving 80 successful outcomes:
Cost Per Outcome = 100,000 / 80 = $1,250
Why This Beats Simple Beneficiary Counts
A program serving 500 people with only 50 successful job placements tells a very different funding effectiveness story than a program serving 100 people with 80 successful placements - cost per outcome captures that distinction directly, while a simple cost-per-beneficiary metric would make the first program look artificially more "efficient" purely because it served more raw headcount, regardless of actual results achieved.
Increasingly Preferred by Funders
Outcome-based metrics like this one are increasingly favored in grant reporting and evaluation over simple output counts (numbers served, hours delivered), since funders are ultimately interested in results achieved, not just activity volume.
