Reading the Pressure Drop
One classic approach exploits a principle of physics: force a fluid through a narrowing, and it speeds up and its pressure drops by an amount related to the flow rate. Devices like the orifice plate place a deliberate restriction in the pipe and measure the pressure difference across it, inferring the flow from that drop. The faster the flow, the larger the pressure change.

Counting and Spinning
