Why the Same Heat Output Needs Very Different Fuel Quantities
Fuels vary enormously in energy density — a kilogram of natural gas carries far more usable heat than a kilogram of wet biomass, largely because biomass moisture content consumes energy just evaporating water before any useful heat is released. This is exactly why fuel consumption calculations always run through a heating value (energy per unit mass or volume) rather than assuming any two fuels producing the same flame size consume fuel at comparable rates.
