Formula
- Annual Idle Hours = (Idle Minutes Per Day / 60) x Days Per Year
- Fuel Wasted = Annual Idle Hours x Idle Fuel Consumption Rate
Example
20 minutes of daily idling at 0.4 gallons/hour, over 250 driving days per year:
Annual Idle Hours = (20/60) x 250 = 83.3 hours → Fuel Wasted ≈ 33.3 gallons/year
