From Heat Demand to Fuel Burn Rate
Whatever fuel you're burning, the same relationship connects heat output to fuel consumed: divide the heat needed by how much energy each unit of fuel provides. This calculator works with any fuel as long as you know its heating value.
The Formula
Fuel Consumption = (Heat Input(kW) × 3.6) / Heating Value(MJ per unit)
The factor of 3.6 converts kilowatts (kJ/s) into megajoules per hour, matching the units heating values are typically published in.
Worked Example
A process needing 500 kW of heat, using a fuel with a heating value of 42 MJ/kg:
Consumption = (500 × 3.6) / 42 = 42.86 kg/hr
