LPG Consumption Calculator
Sizing LPG Cylinder or Tank Draw Rate
LPG (a propane/butane mix) is typically metered by weight rather than volume, since it's stored as a pressurized liquid. This calculator converts heat input directly into a kilogram-per-hour LPG draw rate.
The Formula
LPG Consumption = (Heat Input(kW) × 3.6) / Heating Value(MJ/kg)
LPG has a heating value around 46 MJ/kg; this calculator defaults to 46.1 if not specified.
Worked Example
A 30 kW LPG heater:
Consumption = (30 × 3.6) / 46.1 = 2.34 kg/hr
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the appliance's Heat Input in kW.
- Optionally enter the LPG Heating Value (defaults to 46.1 MJ/kg).
- Select Calculate to get LPG consumption in kg/hr.
