Positivity Ratio Calculator: Positive vs Negative Interactions
Positive psychology research has popularized tracking the ratio of positive to negative emotional experiences or interactions as a rough gauge of flourishing. This calculator computes that ratio and compares it to the widely cited (if debated) 3:1 threshold.
The Formula
Positivity Ratio = Positive Interactions / Negative Interactions
Worked Example
15 positive interactions against 4 negative ones.
Ratio = 15/4 = 3.75:1 (at or above the 3:1 threshold)
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your count of positive interactions over a given period.
- Enter your count of negative interactions over the same period (at least 1).
- Click Calculate to get your positivity ratio and how it compares to the 3:1 benchmark.
