The Formula
This is a straightforward even split of the pre-tax jackpot figure. It doesn't account for the difference between annuity and lump-sum payout structures, or for taxes, both of which apply separately to each winner's share.
Where This Matters
- Interpreting multi-winner headlines — when news reports "two winning tickets sold" for a jackpot, the calculator shows what each winner actually receives before tax.
- Office or group pool payouts — a winning ticket purchased and shared by a group splits the same way, whether the "winners" are separate ticket holders or members of a pool agreement.
