Measuring how compelling an ad actually is
Click-through rate measures what percentage of people who saw an ad actually clicked it - a direct signal of how well an ad's creative, messaging, and targeting resonate with the audience seeing it.
Worked example
For 250 clicks out of 100,000 impressions:
CTR = 250 / 100000 x 100 = 0.25%
| Ad Format | Typical CTR Range |
|---|---|
| Display banner ads | Under 1% |
| Search ads (well-targeted) | 2-5%+ |
| Social media ads | 0.5-2% |
Average CTR benchmarks vary enormously by platform, ad format, industry, and targeting quality - compare CTR against your own historical campaigns and industry benchmarks specifically, not a single universal number.
