Recommended Length = Dog Length(nose to base of tail) + 4 inches
Recommended Height = Dog Standing Height + 4 inches

Why Adding a Small Buffer, Not a Large One
Adding roughly 4 inches of buffer allows enough room for a dog to comfortably stand, turn around, and lie down fully stretched out - but keeping the crate close to this recommended size (rather than significantly oversized) is important for house-training, since dogs naturally avoid soiling a space that feels appropriately snug.
