Rabbit Hutch Size Calculator

Rabbit Hutch Size Calculator

Traditional hutches are often much smaller than rabbits actually need - this calculator estimates minimum combined living and exercise space.

Total Area = Number of Rabbits x Sq Ft Per Rabbit(by breed size)

Example

2 medium-breed rabbits (10 sq ft each):

Total Area = 2 x 10 = 20 sq ft

Why This Exceeds Traditional Hutch Sizes

Modern rabbit welfare guidelines call for considerably more space than the small wooden hutches traditionally sold in pet stores - this figure represents combined living and exercise space, and welfare groups generally recommend rabbits also get daily supervised time outside the enclosure entirely.

Multiple Rabbits Need More Than Simple Multiplication Suggests

While this calculator scales space linearly per rabbit, bonded rabbit pairs or groups often benefit from somewhat more total space than a strict multiplication implies, to reduce territorial tension between individuals sharing an enclosure.
