Max Photos = floor((Card Capacity(GB) x 1000) / Average File Size(MB))
Example
A 64GB card, averaging 25MB per RAW photo:
Max Photos = floor((64 x 1000) / 25) = ~2,560 photos
Why 1GB = 1000MB Here, Not 1024MB
Memory card manufacturers label capacity using the 1GB = 1,000,000,000 byte convention, while your camera's operating system may report available space using the 1,073,741,824 byte (1024-based) convention - this is why a "64GB" card often shows slightly less than 64GB of usable space once formatted.
RAW vs. JPEG File Sizes Differ Enormously
RAW files commonly run 20-50MB depending on camera resolution and compression, while JPEGs from the same camera are often only 3-8MB - shooting RAW+JPEG together roughly doubles the effective file size counted against your card's total capacity.
