Scholarship Eligibility Calculator

A Yes-or-No Question With a Precise Answer

Scholarship listings almost always state a minimum GPA requirement, but comparing your own transcript against that threshold isn't always as simple as it sounds — especially when your school reports on a different scale than the one the scholarship uses. This calculator normalizes both figures and gives a direct eligible/not-eligible answer, along with exactly how many GPA points separate you from qualifying.

The Formula

Eligible = (GPA ≥ Minimum GPA Required)

Both your GPA and the minimum requirement are compared on the same declared scale (4.0 by default), so the comparison is always apples-to-apples.

A Worked Example

3.4 GPA against a 3.5 minimum requirement, 4.0 scale
ValueResult
Your GPA3.4 / 4.0
Minimum Required3.5 / 4.0
ResultNot Eligible — need 0.10 more points

Where This Calculation Matters

  • Pre-application screening — quickly ruling out scholarships where the GPA bar isn't met, before spending time on an application.
  • Tracking progress toward eligibility — students close to a threshold can see exactly how many points remain and target that gap.
  • Scale conversion checks — schools using a 5.0 or weighted scale can confirm how their GPA compares once normalized to the scholarship's stated scale.
  • Advisor and counselor screening — quickly checking a list of students against a batch of scholarship GPA requirements.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter Your GPA.
  2. Enter the Minimum GPA Required for the scholarship.
  3. Optionally enter the GPA Scale if it isn't the standard 4.0.
  4. Select Calculate to see whether you're eligible and, if not, how many points are needed.
