There is no single universally correct number of internal links per page, but many SEO practitioners use links-per-1,000-words as a rough benchmark, since it scales naturally with content length rather than using a fixed link count regardless of how long the page is.
Worked example
For a 1,500-word page with 6 internal links:
Links per 1,000 Words = (6 / 1500) x 1000 = 4.0 links per 1,000 words
A commonly cited target range is roughly 2-5 contextual internal links per 1,000 words - enough to guide readers to related content and distribute link equity, without cluttering the page or scattering relevance signals too thinly across too many destinations.
