Daylight Saving Time Adjustment Calculator
Daylight Saving Time Adjustment Calculator
Don't let the clock change wreck your sleep - this calculator gives a gradual bedtime-shift schedule to ease into the transition.
Daily Bedtime Shift = 15 minutes per day, in the direction of the upcoming change
Example
Preparing for "spring forward," adjusting over 4 days:
Shift bedtime 15 min/day for 4 days before the change
Why Gradual Beats All-at-Once
Gradually shifting bedtime by about 15 minutes per day in the days leading up to a Daylight Saving Time change - rather than adjusting the full hour all at once on the day of the switch - is a widely recommended strategy for reducing the circadian disruption these seasonal clock changes commonly cause.
"Spring Forward" Is Generally Harder Than "Fall Back"
Losing an hour ("spring forward") is commonly reported as more disruptive than gaining one ("fall back"), since it requires the body to fall asleep earlier than its current circadian rhythm is used to - gradual adjustment is especially useful heading into this particular direction of the transition.
