Heat Transfer from Combustion Calculator
Heat Transfer from Combustion Calculator: Convective Heat Transfer Rate
Hot combustion gas continuously loses heat to cooler surrounding surfaces, whether chamber walls, tube banks, or heat exchanger tubes. This calculator applies the standard convective heat transfer model to quantify that rate.
The Formula
Q = h × A × (Tgas − Twall)
Worked Example
Combustion gas at 1,200°C transfers heat to a wall at 400°C across 2 m² of surface with a heat transfer coefficient of 50 W/m2·K.
Q = 50 × 2 × (1200 − 400) = 80,000 W = 80 kW
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the convective heat transfer coefficient in W/m2·K.
- Enter the surface area in m².
- Enter the gas temperature and wall temperature.
- Click Calculate to get the heat transfer rate in kW.
