Oxidizer Requirement Calculator: Beyond Standard Air

Some combustion systems use oxygen-enriched air or pure oxygen (oxy-fuel combustion) instead of standard air, dramatically reducing the volume of oxidizer needed and the nitrogen carried through the process. This calculator generalizes the oxidizer calculation to any oxygen concentration.

The Formula

Oxidizer Required = Stoichiometric O2 / Oxidizer O2 Fraction

Worked Example

A reaction requires 2 mol of O2, supplied as standard air (21% O2).

Oxidizer Required = 2 / 0.21 = 9.52 mol of air
