Combustion Residence Time Calculator

Combustion Residence Time Calculator: Chamber Transit Time

Whether combustion reactions have time to go to completion before hot gases exit the chamber depends directly on residence time. This calculator computes it from the chamber's length and the gas velocity moving through it.

The Formula

Residence Time = Chamber Length / Gas Velocity

Worked Example

A combustion chamber is 2 m long, with gas moving through at 10 m/s.

Residence Time = 2 / 10 = 0.2 seconds

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the combustion chamber length in meters.
  2. Enter the gas velocity through the chamber in m/s.
  3. Click Calculate to get the residence time in seconds.
